Three generations.
One foundation.
Built to serve.
Over 70 Years of Serving the Ready Mixed Concrete Industry.

The Roy Shumaker Era (1950–1978)
Shumaker Industries began with Roy Shumaker, a WWII Navy welder in the Baltimore Shipyards. After returning home to Northumberland, PA, Roy began welding underground storage tanks before repairing a leaking ready-mix concrete drum for a friend in 1950.
Word spread quickly.
By 1951–1952, producers from across the region were bringing drums to Roy for repair. In 1953, Roy and his wife Jean officially moved and founded Norry Welding Company, becoming the first company to service all mixer makes and models.
Through the 1960s, Norry expanded beyond drum repair into manufacturing chutes, hoppers, water tanks, and other mixer components — growing to an 18-employee operation rooted in craftsmanship, integrity, and service.

The Doug Shumaker Era (1979–2013)
In 1979, Roy retired and passed leadership to his son, Doug Shumaker. With a degree in Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, Doug brought a systems-driven mindset to the business. Introducing Computers, automated cutting, a shot blast booth, etc.
In 1989, Doug renamed the company Shumaker Industries and opened a second branch in Greenville, South Carolina — a bold move during a difficult economic period that positioned the company for long-term growth.
Under Doug’s leadership, the company:
-
Modernized manufacturing processes
-
Introduced urethane wrap-around blade liners (2002)
-
Installed the first Load & Go Ready Mix Truck Wash (2007)
-
Survived the 2008 banking crisis by focusing on core drum production
-
Introduced chromium carbide overlay central mix blades (2012)
Through steady innovation and disciplined growth, Shumaker remained competitive and resilient during major industry downturns.

The Recession & Diversification Era (2008–2019)
The 2008–2009 recession hit the concrete industry hard, forcing Shumaker to reduce production. Instead of retreating, the company sharpened its focus.
By 2013, leadership transitioned to the third generation as Doug passed the role of President to his son, Brett Shumaker
(Doug continues serving in sales leadership to this day).
The company implemented the EOS operating system, narrowed to three targeted product lines, and introduced the L&G 1800 — These three changes caused drastic efficiency improvements and caused incredible growth.

The Load & Go Era (2020–Present)
The post-pandemic economy brought significant demand growth across all product lines. The Load & Go system continued to evolve:
-
Unit 200 installed (2020)
-
LG2200 launched with customer-driven improvements (2022)
-
Industry Choice Award at World of Concrete (2023)
-
Unit 500 installed (2024)
-
Unit 600 milestone achieved
Looking ahead, Shumaker launches the Vocational Truck Wash (VTW) into the aggregate and vocational fleet markets — expanding its reach while maintaining its manufacturing roots.
Today, the company employs approximately 50 team members and continues to innovate while honoring its legacy.
